In the history of dog breeding,  once in a great while a new breed will  catapult to the top of the popularity ladder in breeders as well as in families adopting them. This is what the shorkie is doing.  Often by the time a new breed that has started out as a Mix breed  has reached significant numbers , it has already lost much of its heritage because no accurate lineage was ever kept and there is no way to ensure against inbreeding with out accurate lineage. We have 18 yrs of accurate shorkie lineage that gives the Shorkie its beginning here in the USA

The Shorkie is not yet ready for breed recognition and this leaves it in a very vulnerable position. It is vital that the rapidly increasing numbers of new Shorkie breeders who are emerging, have access to a central registry when doing their due diligence, so as to research the pedigrees of breeding adults in the interests of avoiding the inbreeding or careless breeding which would ultimately lead to the ruination of the Shorkie as a breed.

Breeders  springing up all over a country, and all over the world, saying that they are just a mix breed and leaving breeding up to sure luck with no genetic testing and leading puppy parents to believe that Shorkies are healthier due to Hybrid Vigor  and  are setting the scene for future chaos and broken hearted puppy families world wide.

Mix breeds are NOT healthier just because they are a mixed breed. They can inherit if not more so genetic faults just as a purebred.

The Shorkie  is rocketing in popularity so rapidly that many individuals fear for its future health status if centralized records are not kept and breeders are just trusting in the Hybrid Vigor Theory. Not to mention duplicate breedings are bound to occur which could result in total confusion in years to come and inbreeding which will double up on hidden genetic faults.

As with the development of any breed there are health issues that have plagued them.

Our goal is to accurately breed these genetic issues out of the breed as we move forward in the ethical development of the Shorkie as a recognized breed
